The beginning. (Intro + days 1-2)

I figured it would be fun to make a journal tracking my progress in through a wold in Minecraft and post it online, because, why the fuck not, right?
I wish I had thought of it 3 days ago, as I started a new world that I really, really like, and it was my first time playing 'survival'. But, unfortunately, I didn't, so I decided to start a new world today to be able to track it from the beginning. So, without further ado, I declare this journal open!

Day 1.
I spawn in a cold landscape, filled with trees and hills. I believe the term is taiga?
The first thing I do after an inital look-around, is to find the nearest hillsite and dig my way in using nothing but my "hands". Why? Because if you don't have a base by nightfall, you're screwed!
I dig a small tunnel, and exit again. I go over to the nearest tree and start chopping, using the first chunk of wood to easier chop some more trees, before I go back to the base. I dig a small room and equip it with a crafting table. With the table, I make a pickaxe and a shovel, as well as a door, which I immediately place in the entrance of my little "cave". Normally, I would trawl the surrounding area for an existing cave to take base in, but experience shows it is good to have a little base near the inital spawn point. You know, just in case.
On my way to the hillsite, I spotted some coal, and I go back now to extract it with a pickaxe. Torches are priceless in this world, and my only defense against the evil monsters, at least until I get some swords and armor going.
I placed some torches inside and outside the base, and it is starting to look rather cosy now.
Welcome to my humble abode! Here are the insides:
Sure, it might not be the Plaza, but it makes an excellent base for survival until I can get some more resources.

I went to explore some more, and right to the right of my cave, I fund a pass leaving to a small crater or hole or something, and I plan to seal it with glass, should I decide to stay here. It would make an excellent place to keep critters or plant some seeds later!

I notice night is falling, so I go inside to spend my first night in the cave.

During the night, I heard some zombie-grunts nearby, but could not see them. I suspect it came from the ridge I spotted nearby. I nearly fell into it as I wandered around, because it can only be entered from some holes I found, but I placed some torches around it to keep myself from actually falling down.

While I waited for daylight to return, I crafted a chest and a furnace, and deposited half my wood into the chest. Experience has shown me that when you die, you respawn without nothing, so I figured it would be a good idea to leave something behind just in case.
The rest of the night was spent expanding the cave and adding a second room to it, accompanied by the sound of the two cows I had med earlier in the day.

Day 2.

As soon as the sun rose, I went outside to get more wood, as I had run out and found myself in need of a sword. After I'd crafted the sword, I went to scout the area further, as I needed armor and food. Lucky for me, the two cows were not alone! On the hill my cave is carved under, there were some chickens and a herd of cows. They kept moving around, so I couldn't really count them, but I slaid a few before heading back to prowl more. I went down to the water nearby my cave, and what do I find? MORE COWS. I killed some of those as well, and went back to my crafting-table to fashion myself a hoe.
Now that I had the hoe, I smashed the grass to find some seeds, and sowed some grain by the riverside. You can never have enough food! I alo gathered some eggs from the chickens, and plan to dig out a pit to keep my very own chickens in, so I can make cakes. Mmmm, delicious cakes!
After this operation, I gathered some more wood before I suddenly noticed the world was darkening around me. I hurried back to the cave, and hair rose on my arms and back as I heard the "uuuuuhn" of a zombie right behind me as I entered the door! I looked around, but no zombie. I kept hearing the noise, so I assume he was running around on a ledge above me somewhere. I put my seven slices of beef into the furnace along with some wood, and let it stew while I crafted myself a chestplate out of the leather. I prefer to use metal, but I haven't found any yet.
I will most likely move to a new location once I've gotten to know the area better, or establish several caves. It never hurts to have a base nearby, so you can run back to it when it starts to darken, and make it inside before things start to spawn *shudders*...

Here's "me" in the leather chestplate (inside my little cave)! Don't I look handsome?
